House Majority Leader Tom DeLay was quoted recently in an AP story saying:
“Absolutely. We’ve got Justice Kennedy writing decisions based upon international law, not the Constitution of the United States? That’s just outrageous,” DeLay told Fox News Radio on Tuesday. “And not only that, but he said in session that he does his own research on the Internet? That is just incredibly outrageous.” According to the AP report, the comment was made when the Majority Leader was characterizing Justice Kennedy as an “example of Republican members of the Supreme Court who were activist and isolated.”
If Justice Kennedy does indeed go online to conduct research for his job, he has lots of company. On a typical day, 20% of internet users, or 27 million Americans, use the internet to do some kind of research relating to their jobs. In terms of percentages, the numbers are larger for those Americans with high-speed internet connections at the workplace. For that group, 42% do some work-related research online on the average day.
