This study explores the makeup of the social media news influencer universe, including who they are, what content they create and who their audiences are.
X is still more of a news destination than these other platforms, but the vast majority of users on all four see news-related content.
Our researchers cast a wide net across the most popular social media sites to form an inclusive list of influencers who regularly discuss news.
About half of all U.S. adults who use TikTok have never posted a video themselves. And the top 25% of U.S. adults on the site by posting volume produce 98% of all publicly accessible videos from this group. Users who have posted videos are generally more active on the platform than non-posters.
Over three weeks studied, a majority of posts on current events or civic issues (55%) by news influencers were about government, politics or the election.
About four-in-ten parents say they could be doing better at managing their kid’s screen time. A larger share – 58% – say they’re doing the best they can.
News influencers with a current or past connection to a news organization are less likely to explicitly advertise their political orientations.
