Rising Numbers of Americans Say Jews and Muslims Face a Lot of Discrimination

The public is sharply divided by party, even as most support international cooperation and large majorities say it is important that the U.S. is respected around the world.
At the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Developmentโs annual forum on Dec. 15, 2020, Director of Global Attitudes Research Richard Wike presented the results of an invitation-only poll of forum attendees about the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts, the state of the global economy, the future of work, and cooperation between countries.
Across 12 countries, a median of 40% of adults say they have no confidence in Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do the right thing regarding world affairs, while a median of 37% say they have at least some confidence. About eight-in-ten Indians (79%) have a favorable view of Modi, including a 55% majority with a very favorable view.
A median of 76% of adults in the 24 countries surveyed say China does not take into account the interests of other countries in its foreign policy. Majorities in most countries also say China does not contribute to global peace and stability.
Across 24 countries, large shares have an unfavorable view of Russia and no confidence in Putin to do the right thing regarding world affairs.
Overwhelmingly, people believe the U.S. interferes in the affairs of other countries (82%), but most also believe the U.S. contributes to peace and stability around the world (61%). U.S. President Joe Biden receives mostly positive reviews from publics around the world with 54% expressing confidence in Biden, while 39% say they lack confidence in him.
