State of the News Media 2016
The past year brought pressures to America’s newspaper newsrooms not seen since the Great Recession. From broadcast to print to digital and more, this year’s annual report takes stock of the state of the news media.
Attention to the Republican nomination fight increased last week with Iowa looming and Gingrich and Romney locked in campaign combat.
A news week that began with the campaign ended with the death of Muammar Gaddafi.
Though the economy topped the mainstream news agenda, Obama’s troop drawdown announcement gave Afghanistan its biggest week of coverage in a year. And while mainstay subjects—the campaign and the Mid-East—continued to make news, the surprise arrest of one of the FBI’s most wanted dominated the end of the week.
