Speaking in Tongues

About one-in-three American pentecostals say that they themselves speak in tongues weekly or more often while about half (51%) say that the services they attend frequently include people speaking in tongues, prophesying or manifesting other signs of the Spirit.In all 10 countries surveyed by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, overwhelming majorities of pentecostal church attenders say their religious services at least occasionally include people engaging in such physical signs of the Holy Spirit. This type of church service is especially common in Latin America and Africa, where pluralities of pentecostals in most countries report that their services include these activities either always (Brazil, Guatemala, South Africa) or frequently (Chile, Kenya).
