Across the top 25 news websites, the majority of users are casual users. A study by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism of Nielsen data found, as averaged across the sites,77% of the traffic to the top 25 news sites came from users who visited just one or two times per month. News sites with the highest percentage of “casual visitors” include examiner.com (93% of users), cbsnews.com (90%) and abcnews.com (89%). Users who visit a news site 10 times or more per month compose 7% of the total audience at these 25 news sites, on average.
