Handhelds Get Thumbs Up

Handheld devices such as BlackBerries and iPhones are seen as a good thing by most people, with a majority (56%) saying they have been a change for the better. However, a quarter (25%) says these devices have been a change for the worse over the last decade. The age gap in attitudes toward these devices is particularly wide: 72% of those under age 30 consider handheld wireless devices to be a positive change, compared with just 33% of those ages 65 and older. However, unlike other technology changes like online shopping, social networking sites and internet blogs, a majority of those ages 50 to 64 say handheld devices have been a change for the better. Far more Americans see devices such as Blackberries and iPhones as changes for the better than say the same of social networking sites and internet blogs, but online shopping is on par with handheld devices as an improvement over the past decade according to the public.
