Completely Endorse Old Fashioned Values

That’s the proportion of U.S. adults who completely agree with the statement: “I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage” — down from 53% in 1999.

While most Americans continue to say they generally have “old-fashioned values about family and marriage,” only 41% now say they completely endorse such values, down from a 53% in 1999. Overall 76% of U.S. adults say they subscribe to old-fashioned family/marriage values at least “mostly,” but that percentage too has declined from 85% a decade ago. As might be expected, older Americans are more likely than young people to concur strongly with this sentiment, although even among those ages 50 and older, the number expressing complete agreement has declined from 71% in 1999 to 49% in the most recent Pew Values Survey.
