Sahana Mukherjee is the associate director of race and ethnicity research at Pew Research Center. She is an expert on issues of immigration, national identity, and the experiences of U.S. Hispanic, Black and Asian populations. She works across the Center’s research process, from designing surveys, analyzing surveys and demographic data, and writing reports that inform public conversation and news coverage. She regularly shares findings with various media outlets.
Before joining the Center, she led a research team at a global consulting firm and prior to that served as a tenured professor and department chair at Gettysburg College. She has published widely in academic and non-academic outlets, received multiple grants and awards, and served in leadership and advisory roles in professional organizations. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Kansas and a B.A. in Psychology, Sociology, and English from Christ University, India.
