71% of adults say they are very or somewhat concerned about how the government uses the data it collects about them, up from 64% in 2019.
The share of Americans who say they are very or somewhat concerned about government use of people’s data has increased from 64% in 2019 to 71% today. Two-thirds (67%) of adults say they understand little to nothing about what companies are doing with their personal data, up from 59%.
The declining public trust in the news media and polarization of news audiences have profound effects on civic life.
62% of U.S. adults under 30 say they use TikTok, compared with 39% of those ages 30 to 49, 24% of those 50 to 64, and 10% of those 65 and older.
Today, nearly all U.S. teens (96%) say they use the internet every day. And the share of teens who report being online “almost constantly” has roughly doubled since 2014-2015 (24% vs. 46%).
Just 14% of all U.S. adults say they have used ChatGPT for entertainment, to learn something new, or for their work.
YouTube is the most popular online platform among teens, with roughly nine-in-ten saying they use the site. And more than half of teens report using TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram.
PayPal is used by a majority of U.S. adults (57%). Smaller shares report ever using Venmo (38%), Zelle (36%) or Cash App (26%).
Over the years, we have studied how U.S. adults – as well as teens and children – use and engage with Instagram. Here are seven key takeaways.
