The number of Americans living in multi-generational households, which spiked during the Great Recession, has risen to a record 57 million in 2012, including about one-in-four young adults ages 25-34.

It finds that the decline in U.S. births after the onset of the Great Recession, especially among Hispanics, slowed the national shift to a majority-minority youth population. Although the Census Bureau said two years ago that minorities were the majority among newborns, the new numbers no longer show that.
