Protestants and Homosexuality

Among mainline Protestants, acceptance of homosexuality stands at 56%, higher than among the total U.S. population (50%). However, the degree of acceptance of homosexuality varies greatly among individual denominations of Protestant Christianity. Members of the Episcopal Church and United Church of Christ have the highest levels of acceptance, roughly seven-in-ten. At the other end of the spectrum are American Baptists and members of historically black Protestant churches, where about four-in-ten accept homosexuality.
