A third of Americans experienced high levels of psychological distress during the coronavirus outbreak
Distress levels changed little overall from March to April, but this concealed considerable change at the individual level over this period.
Scott Keeter is a senior survey advisor at Pew Research Center. In this role, he provides methodological guidance to all of Pew Research Centerโs research areas. An expert on American public opinion and political behavior, he is co-author of four books, includingย What Americans Know about Politics and Why It Mattersย (Yale University Press), A New Engagement? Political Participation, Civic Life, and the Changing American Citizen (Oxford University Press),ย The Diminishing Divide: Religionโs Changing Role in American Politicsย (Brookings Institution Press),ย andย Uninformed Choice: The Failure of the New Presidential Nominating Systemย (Praeger). He has also published numerous articles on survey methodology. Prior to joining Pew Research Center, he taught at George Mason University, Rutgers University and Virginia Commonwealth University, where he also directed a survey research center. Keeter is a graduate of Davidson College and received his doctorate in political science from the University of North Carolina. He is a past president of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR).ย In 2016, Keeter won AAPORโs highest honor, theย AAPOR Award for Lifetime Achievement, for โoutstanding contributions to the field of public opinion research.โ
