Voters who support Biden and Trump have starkly different opinions on many issues, and these two groups are divided internally as well.
Americans’ views of politics and elected officials are unrelentingly negative, with little hope of improvement on the horizon. 65% of Americans say they always or often feel exhausted when thinking about politics. By contrast, just 10% say they always or often feel hopeful about politics.
Majorities of both Republicans and Democrats remain fearful about the state of the country.
There are wide partisan gaps over most of the 19 items asked about – particularly addressing racial issues and dealing with global climate change.
For years, public trust in the federal government has hovered at near-record lows. That remains the case today, as the United States struggles with a pandemic and economic recession.
