Over a third of adults now have a profile on a social networking website.
The percentage of those ages 70 to 75 using the internet has nearly doubled, from 26% in 2005 to 46% in 2008.
Two-thirds of those ages 33 to 44 do their banking online and 80% have gone shopping on the internet.
About a third of the U.S. public calls social networking sites such as Facebook a change for the better.
Handheld devices such as Blackberries and iPhones are seen as a good thing by most people.
The majority of Americans see the growth of online shopping as a positive innovation over the last decade.
That’s the percentage of those ages 18 to 29 who now say they regularly learn about the campaign from the internet, the highest percentage for any news source.
About a third of teenagers who access the internet say they have been contacted by someone unknown to them or to their friends; but few (7%) view the contact as threatening.
That’s the portion of internet users who say they have shared something online that they created themselves such as their own artwork, photos, stories or videos — activities that are part of the loose aggregation of participatory online activities under the rubric of Web 2.0.
