Democratic and Republican candidates use different language on Twitter, even when talking about the same topics
Across many issues, GOP candidates have been more likely than Democrats to use a negative tone on Twitter
Candidate tweets about some issues – including abortion, foreign policy, guns and immigration – have increased sharply in response to news events
Candidates frequently mention the opposing party on Twitter – and almost always to express disagreement
