How European and U.S. unauthorized immigrant populations compare
The size of Europe’s unauthorized immigrant population in 2017 was less than half the number in the United States.
The European continent today is split in public attitudes toward religion, minorities and social issues such as gay marriage and legal abortion.
Even with no new migration, Muslims are projected to increase as a share of Europe’s population.
The recent wave of asylum seekers to 28 EU countries, Norway and Switzerland accounts for one-in-ten asylum applications to the region since 1985.
