Hispanic Turnout

With turnout up across the board in the 2008 election, Latinos increased their share of the national vote to 9% according to the national exit poll. Latinos made up 8% of the electorate in 2004. Increases in the Hispanic vote occured in several battleground states such as New Mexico (9 percentage points higher), Colorado (5 points higher) and Nevada (5 points higher). Obama, who carried Latino’s nationally 67% to 31%, had much larger margins in states with big Latino populations.
