Sahana Mukherjee

Sahana Mukherjee is associate director of race and ethnicity research at Pew Research Center. She has published extensively in academic journals and books, as well as non-academic outlets, and has received multiple research awards from universities and professional societies in recognition of her contributions in immigration, national identity, and race relations. ย 

Prior to joining Pew Research Center, Sahana worked in consultancy and higher education. She managed a high visibility research team in a global consulting firm, leading investigations on social science and technology. As a tenured professor and department chair at Gettysburg College, Sahana spearheaded multiple strategic initiatives, including the development of an innovative and inclusive general education curriculum for the institution, and led the cultural psychology research laboratory, examining topics on national identity and intergroup relations. She has also served on the leadership council of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, and on the National Science Foundation Social Psychology Panel, reviewing and making recommendations on grant proposals. Sahana earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Kansas and holds a B.A. in Psychology, Sociology, and English from Christ University.
