74% of Americans view the war between Russia and Ukraine as important to U.S. national interests – with 43% describing it as very important.
91% of Americans have unfavorable views of Russia and 83% have unfavorable views of China.
A median of 76% of adults in the 24 countries surveyed say China does not take into account the interests of other countries in its foreign policy. Majorities in most countries also say China does not contribute to global peace and stability.
Nearly half of Americans (47%) say that the United States’ influence in the world has been getting weaker in recent years.
Americans see China as a growing superpower – and increasingly say it is the world’s leading economy.
With new 2022 survey results just around the corner, here are five of the many insights from the newly added data available on the database.
Most Americans see little ability for the U.S. and China to cooperate on climate change policy or combating the spread of infectious disease. A majority of Americans continue to view the China-Russia partnership as a very serious problem for the U.S.
Only three-in-ten Americans say it is a very serious problem for the United States if Xi Jinping assumes a third term as China’s leader.
Negative views of China predominate in the U.S., Canada and Western Europe. China also receives unfavorable marks from many neighbors in the Asia-Pacific region.
President Trump and his policies continue to receive negative reviews from people worldwide, with a lack of confidence in his leadership especially common in Western Europe. While views of the U.S. are positive overall, they vary widely among some of its key allies.
