In most places surveyed, more people name China’s influence as a major threat than any of the other geopolitical issues asked about.
The share of Americans who have no confidence in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has increased 11 percentage points since 2023.
Americans and Israelis now see one another’s leaders more negatively than in the recent past, and other key views have shifted as well.
91% of Americans have unfavorable views of Russia and 83% have unfavorable views of China.
Only three-in-ten Americans say it is a very serious problem for the United States if Xi Jinping assumes a third term as China’s leader.
67% of U.S. adults express a favorable view of the Israeli people; a much smaller share (48%) says the same about the Israeli government.
Much larger shares of people in most nations see China’s influence growing than say the same of the United States.
Only 13% of Americans think the U.S. garners more respect internationally now than in the past, while 19% think it’s as respected as ever.
Fewer than 1 million foreign students enrolled for either online or in-person classes at U.S. universities in the 2020-21 school year.
In March 2021 – the most recent month for which data is available – around 3 million American citizens traveled outside of the country.
