Most Americans say a free press is highly important to society
Ahead of World Press Freedom Day, 73% of U.S. adults say the freedom of the press is extremely or very important to the well-being of society.
Senior Researcher
Kirsten Eddy is a senior researcher at Pew Research Center, where she specializes in U.S. and global news and information habits and attitudes including news engagement, young audiences, and diversity and representation in news. She is a research associate and former postdoctoral research fellow with the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.
Kirsten is the co-author of two books: โPower in Ideasโ (Cambridge University Press, 2021) and โRecoding the Boysโ Clubโ (Oxford University Press, 2020). She obtained her Ph.D. in media and communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her bachelorโs and masterโs degrees in journalism from Arizona State Universityโs Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication.
