# GOP Less Friendly to Religion?

Just under half (49%) of white Protestant evangelicals say that the Republican Party is friendly to religion. The figure represents a decline of 14 points in the past year for a constituency that has played a pivotal role in recent elections. The percentage of Catholics who see the Republican Party as friendly to religion has also declined significantly; just 41% hold that view today, compared with 55% about a year ago.More broadly, the overall proportion of Americans who say Republican Party is friendly to religion declined across all religious groups surveyed and within all political parties to 47%.[Read More](https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/docs/index.php?DocID=153)
