Key facts about the nation’s 47.9 million Black Americans
The number of Black people living in the United States reached a new high of 47.9 million in 2022, up about a third (32%) since 2000.
Americans’ views of politics and elected officials are unrelentingly negative, with little hope of improvement on the horizon. 65% of Americans say they always or often feel exhausted when thinking about politics. By contrast, just 10% say they always or often feel hopeful about politics.
