While 62% of Republicans [said in a 2022 Center survey](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/08/30/more-so-than-adults-u-s-teens-value-people-feeling-safe-online-over-being-able-to-speak-freely/) that **people being able to speak their minds freely online** is more important than **people being able to feel welcome and safe**, the same share of Democrats take the opposite view – and the partisan gap on this question has grown.
