Dear readers,

Many Americans know Pew Research Center for the studies we do on U.S. trends and changes, but throughout our history the Center has been a globally facing organization, conducting research and connecting with audiences in all parts of the world. In fact, outside the U.S. we may be better known for our cross-national comparative work than for the depth of information we provide about America.

It’s been a busy summer for our global research agenda. We have released several new publications after surveying the United States and 23 other countries in the spring. This year marks the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic that we’ve been able to field surveys in Latin America, Africa and several countries in the Asia-Pacific region where we conduct interviews face-to-face.

So far, we have released new findings on global views of various world leaders and nations, as well as the issues of abortion and same-sex marriage. We’ll have even more new international research findings to share with you over the next few months, including how people around the world view citizenship, national identity and democracy, as well as a look at technology use in middle-income nations.

We believe having a global perspective on trends and changes is essential to our mission. None of the topics we study end at the U.S. border, and America’s future is integrally intertwined with the world’s. Over the past 20 years we’ve seen that global audiences can often learn from the American experience, and Americans can often gain important insights from what’s happening in other parts of the world as well.

- [Views of Biden and the U.S.](https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2023/06/27/international-views-of-biden-and-u-s-largely-positive/): Across 23 surveyed countries, a median of 54% of adults express confidence in President Joe Biden, while 59% have a favorable view of the U.S. Most say the U.S. interferes in the affairs of other countries, but also contributes to peace and stability around the world.

- [Views of Putin, Russia, NATO and world leaders](https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2023/07/10/large-shares-see-russia-and-putin-in-negative-light-while-views-of-zelensky-more-mixed/): Large shares of surveyed adults see Russia and President Vladimir Putin in a negative light, while opinions of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are more mixed. Views of NATO remain favorable among people in member nations.

- [Views of China](https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2023/07/27/chinas-approach-to-foreign-policy-gets-largely-negative-reviews-in-24-country-survey/): Views of China are broadly negative in the U.S. and 23 other surveyed countries. Most people say China does not take other countries’ interests into account in its foreign policy. Few have confidence in Chinese President Xi Jinping to do the right thing regarding world affairs.

- [Attitudes toward same-sex marriage](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/06/13/how-people-in-24-countries-view-same-sex-marriage/): Support for legal same-sex marriage varies widely by country, ranging from 92% of adults in Sweden to just 2% in Nigeria. Attitudes vary by geography, demographic factors, political ideology and religion.

- [Attitudes toward abortion](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/06/20/support-for-legal-abortion-is-widespread-in-many-countries-especially-in-europe/): Attitudes about legal abortion also differ widely by country – and often within the same country. Religiously unaffiliated adults, people on the ideological left and women are more likely to support legal abortion.
