Britain Worries More About Extremism

The latest Pew Global Attitudes survey finds that in Britain, worries about Islamic extremism are intense among both the general public and the Muslim minority population as well. Concerns about the problem rose markedly this year among the general public, 42% of whom now say they are very concerned about the rise of Islamic extremism in Great Britain. This marks a substantial increase from the 34% who expressed intense concern in 2005 before the London subway bombings. An additional 35% of the British public says it is somewhat concerned. And worries about extremism within the British Muslim community are greater than in France, Germany, and Spain; 43% of Muslims living in Britain say they are very concerned about Islamic extremism there, compared with 26% of Muslims in France, 23% in Germany and 21% in Spain.Read More
