Valentine’s Day this year will be unlike any in recent memory as coronavirus-related restrictions continue to limit what Americans can do to celebrate. But many Americans may still find special ways to mark the holiday.

Here are some facts about relationships and dating in the U.S., based on surveys conducted before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three-in-ten Americans had used a dating site or app as of 2019, and most said their experiences were positive.

And, single Americans said in 2019 that they were generally open to dating people from a variety of backgrounds, but some characteristics would give them pause.

In the 2019 survey, about half of single adults who were looking for a relationship said they would definitely or probably not consider seriously dating someone who lived far away, had a significant amount of debt, or had voted for Donald Trump in 2016.
