Despite the growing importance of social media, just 9% of digital news consumers say they “very often” follow news recommendations from Facebook or Twitter on any of the three main types of digital devices (computers, smartphones or tablets). In comparison, more than a third (36%) say they “very often” go directly to news organizations on one of their devices; 32% get news by searching ”very often” and 29% use some sort of news organizer site or application.

Among just digital consumers who get their news online, the share of people who get at least some news from Facebook or Twitter rises to 52%. More than twice as many digital news consumers follow news recommendations from Facebook than from Twitter.

But these methods of getting news still trail by a large margin going directly to news websites (92%) and using search(85%). Read More
