Deportations have reached record levels under President Obama, rising to an annual average of nearly 400,000 since 2009. This figure is about 30% higher than the annual average during the second term of the George W. Bush administration, and about double the average during his first term.
A plurality (41%) of Latinos say that the Obama administration is deporting more unauthorized immigrants than the Bush administration. However, not all Latinos are aware that the Obama administration has stepped up deportations of unauthorized immigrants. Slightly more than a third (36%) say the two administrations have deported about the same number of immigrants. And one-in-ten (10%) Latinos say the Obama administration has deported fewer unauthorized immigrants than the George W. Bush administration.
The survey, conducted from Nov. 9 to Dec. 7 by the Pew Hispanic Center also found that Latinos disapprove of the way the Obama administration is handling deportations of unauthorized immigrants by a 59% to 27% margin, with 13% expressing no opinion. Read More
