Technology Coverage in the Media

In the mainstream press, technology does not receive an abundance of coverage. A study of reporting on media topicsfrom June 2009 to June 2010 found that technology accounted for just 1.6% of the total newshole, ranking it 20 out of 26 identified topics. The coverage technology did receive often feel into two competing storylines: that technology is making life easier and more productive and that the internet is not secure.The danger of text messaging while driving — a story of the perils of technology — was the most-covered tech story during the time studied.
