Older Adults Tweeting
One-in-ten online adults ages 50-64 use Twitter or another status-updating service.
More and more older adults are learning to speak in 140-character tweets. One-in-ten (11%) online adults ages 50-64 and 5% of online adults ages 65 and older say they use Twitter or another status-updating service. A year ago, just 5% of internet-using adults ages 50-64 were among America’s tweeters. Young online adults are still the most likely to be on Twitter or a status-updating service; more than a quarter (27%) of internet users ages 18-29 tweet. Some older tweeters have plenty to share. Among internet users, 6% of adults ages 50-64 use Twitter or a status-updating service on a typical day, as do 3% of those ages 65 and older. By comparison, 18% of young adults use Twitter daily.
