President Barack Obama has been the dominating fixture in American politics for well over two years, but that doesn’t mean a majority of Americans can correctly identify his religion. In fact, 11% incorrectly say he is a Muslim, essentially the same as the one-in-ten Americans who have consistently said Obama is a Muslim in Pew Research surveys dating back to the presidential campaign. Only 48% correctly identify Obama as a Christian. Over a third of Americans (35%) say they do not know Obama’s religion, either because they do not know enough about him (22%), or because they have heard different things about his religion (13%); another 6% refused to answer.
