U.S.-Born Children of Unauthorized Immigrants
Unauthorized immigrants comprise about 4% of the U.S. adult population, but their children comprise 8% of newborns.
According to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by the Pew Hispanic Center, an estimated 340,000 of the 4.3 million babies born in the U.S. in 2008 were the offspring of unauthorized immigrants. This means that while a little more than 4% of the U.S. adult population is composed of unauthorized immigrants, their children make up 8% of newborn population.
