Race and the Vote

One-in-five voters say they know someone who will not vote for Obama because he is black.

Overall, 21% of voters say they personally know anyone who will not vote for Barack Obama because he is black. Those who support Obama are more likely to know someone who will not vote for him based on race (27%) than are those who support McCain (10%). Roughly equal numbers of white (21%) and black (22%) respondents say they know someone who will not vote for Obama because he is black. There is also no difference based on age or gender, but college graduates are more likely than those with less education to know someone not supporting Obama because of race (26% vs. 18%). Read More
